John Batchelor and Stephen F. Cohen had an interesting conversation the other day. And it should change the way you see the current U.S. presidential campaign and the world situation in general.
Remember those Cold War presidents, like Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Reagan? Remember how they strove just to keep mutually assured destruction a mutual assurance? Remember how Khrushchev hammered his shoe on the podium at the United Nations, and then other Russian maniacs took his place until Gorbachev seemed to exhibit a little sanity? Remember how Russians seemed to place their trust in Putin, and still do?
Well, it turns out people like Stephen Cohen study these things. And it turns out that Barack Obama, our first black president, may also be the president who brought us back to the Cold War, and to the brink of destruction. Oh, he had a great lead up with Clinton and Bush. But his moves in Ukraine are taking us right to the brink.
Either know it or don’t know it. Just don’t complain to me for not mentioning it.
